The command line

Audit how machines read any page, then track AI citations, Search Console topic gaps and site issues for your own site from the terminal or CI.

One package installs two commands. croutons audits any page and needs no account. agentc works on your own site with your Agent C account, the same one the Mac and iPhone apps use. Both need Node.js 18 or later.

Install

npm install -g @croutons/cli

Audit any page

croutons audit example.com
croutons compare example.com rival.com

croutons audit fetches the page the way search engines and AI crawlers do and scores what they can read: salience (title, H1 and body agree on the topic), entity coherence of the JSON-LD, fact parity between schema and visible text, fact recovery, crawler access, raw HTML, JavaScript dependency, provenance, freshness, indexability and discovery. It lists warnings and any blocked crawlers, and links to a full report you can share. compare puts two pages side by side.

Each part of the report also has its own command:

Add --md to print the whole report as Markdown to paste into an editor or coding agent, or --pdf report.pdf to save it.

Sign in to Agent C

agentc login
agentc use example.com

agentc login emails you a 6-digit code. The session is saved in ~/.config/croutons/agentc.json, readable only by you. agentc sites lists your Search Console sites; a site that is not in Search Console works too.

AI citations

agentc citations
agentc questions --missing
agentc sources
agentc listings
agentc scan --wait

citations shows how often ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini name your business and cite your website, and who they name instead. questions shows every question asked and which assistants named you; --missing keeps only the questions where none did. sources lists the websites the answers cite, marked as yours, a directory or a competitor. listings shows the directories the assistants read and whether you are listed on them.

Search gaps

agentc gaps
agentc draft "flood barrier cost"

gaps maps the topics people search for, from your Search Console data, and shows which have no page, a page that only partly answers them, or a page that owns them, ranked by demand. draft writes the page for a gap, or improves the page that partly covers it, and opens a pull request when GitHub is connected.

Site check

agentc site check --wait
agentc site
agentc issue 1
agentc intents
agentc owner "emergency plumber austin"

The site check crawls your site with your Search Console data and finds canonical, sitemap, robots, structured data, duplicate and orphan page problems. issue explains one and lists every URL. intents shows which page owns each search intent and which pages compete with it. owner tells you which page should rank for a query, or that none does yet.

Review fixes

agentc fixes
agentc fix <id>
agentc approve <id>
agentc learning

Publishing an approved fix happens in Review in the Mac or iPhone app. With GitHub connected, that opens a pull request for you to merge. agentc learning shows what fixes changed once they shipped.

Scripts and CI

Every command accepts --json. croutons audit example.com --min 90 exits with code 2 when the overall score falls below 90, so a deploy can fail on a regression. For agentc, set AGENTC_TOKEN and AGENTC_SITE instead of signing in, and use --site to work on another site for one command.

Run croutons help or agentc help for every command.
